Epinions An Excellent GPS

by  moenko,  Jun 18, 2004
Pros: Rugged, full of features, great value
Cons: 8 MB memory is sufficient but could be more
The Bottom Line: For now under $200 you will be hard-pressed to find a unit of this quality with so many features. Definitely recommended
Review: I have had my GPSMAP 76 for about a year and a half now and used it in any possible situation, i.e. on a boat, in the car and while hiking. Since I had previous experience with Garmin GPS products, I knew the quality was hard to beat and this unit was ...

Epinions An amazing piece of engineering

by  apd603,  Dec 13, 2003
Pros: WAAS enabled accuracy, excellent screen resolution, rugged case, easy computer interface, plenty of GPS capacity
Cons: somewhat limited uploading capability, somewhat bulky, waypoint labels limited to 8 characters
The Bottom Line: An outstanding value for the money, this super-well designed GPS can find your way and help you find fish, but it is also great for collecting electronic mapping data.
Review: Admittedly I love mapping and maps, but the Garmin 76 is probably my all-time favorite electronic device. It is engineered and built extremely well -- very rugged and with an excellent user interface. Although I haven't used Magellens and other ...

Epinions GPS 76 and 76Map

by  live4java,  Aug 17, 2007
Pros: Accurate. Reliable. Reasonably priced.
Cons: None, really.
The Bottom Line: Excellent choice as a backup to a larger GPS Chartplotter, or as your primary GPS on a small boat. Accurate. Rugged. Reliable.
Review: I own one of each of these models, the second purchased as an upgrade so I could use the older 76 as a backup. The 76 itself replaced a Garmin 48 (another lovable little unit) on my boat. Both were available on-sale for around $200 at the time of ...

by  rschoos,  Oct 5, 2007
Pros: The Garmin 76 GPS is an great GPS w/ Blue Charts(optional)
Cons: The small metal negative battery tab broke off and requires a $175 Garmin repair.

by  jm5858,  Aug 11, 2008
Pros: intuitive to use, link to PC is great
Cons: Buttons stick out, get pressed accidentally when in a pocket, break off
Review: It's a powerful tool for sailboat racing, as well as safety (I've used it twice to return safely in the fog). Being able to load GPS points into it is great, as well as reading out the tracks (series of time/lat/long points where you were). ...
